WILMINGTON, N.C.-- (NATION'S RESTAURANT NEWS) -- January 28, 2005 -- Port City Java, operator and franchisor of 67 coffee shops, opened a new prototype designed to operate in nontraditional café settings, marking the company's third location in a Harris Teeter grocery store.
The new modular unit is built off premises, shipped to the location and reassembled, allowing the company to pinpoint an opening date far in advance, keep capital free until days before opening and reduce construction cost, said Don Reynolds, Wilmington-based Port City Java's chief operating officer.
The company said it had signed an additional deal for more nontraditional locations, including a unit in a regional hospital in Dubois, Pa.
