Port City Java at Old Dominion University; Fairganic™ Alignment

WILMINGTON, N.C.-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- February 28, 2005 -- Port City Java announces the opening of a Port City Java café adjacent to the Old Dominion University campus in Norfolk, VA. The new 1,850 sq. ft. café is located in The Shops at University Village. The new café is situated in a mixed use Urban Village, with retail on the ground floor and student residential on upper floors. The Port City Java café is also near the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Coastal Coffee, LLC is the Port City Java franchisee for this café.

Port City Java COO Don Reynolds states " this Port City Java café represents the company's expansion into nontraditional sites, while still developing cafés in traditional coffee/café settings. " The company opened a new modular caf" in a Harris Teeter grocery store on January 19, 2005. Reynolds further states " we are finalizing agreements to open additional nontraditional sites, including within a hospital, on other university campuses, and additional Harris Teeter units ". The company's strategy of opening in both traditional and nontraditional settings is aligned with the company's Brand identity and awareness programs. The company feels it can introduce The Brand to " new " consumers in nontraditional settings.

Fairganic™

Port City Java's recent Fairganic™ program is well received in nontraditional settings. Reynolds states " universities are particularly intrigued by a company that can supply certified Organic and Fair Trade products, as the students are in tune to these issues ". Port City Java has developed a line of coffees, served in distinct and separate packing and cups, for it's cafés that are 100% Fair Trade and Organic. The company has coined the term Fairganic™ to name the program and it has applied for Trademark protection.
