Port City Java Opens in Harris Teeter; Non-Traditional/Modular

WILMINGTON, N.C.-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- September 29, 2005 -- Wilmington, NC based Port City Java announces the opening of a new Port City Java in a Harris Teeter Grocery Store. The café opened within the new Harris Teeter located in the Mayfaire development on 6805 Parker Farm Road Wilmington, NC. The café is the fourth unit to open inside of a Harris Teeter. In addition to these four units, Port City Java retails its whole bean coffee in nine other Harris Teeter Grocery Stores.

Drive-Thru Model

This unit is the third completely modular Port City Java that the company has opened. Port City Java COO Don Reynolds states " we have had positive experiences from opening these modular units in Grocery Store settings and Hospital/Institutional settings. " The entire unit is built off premises, shipped to the location and reassembled. This type of construction helps shorten the timeline for opening and brings the construction phase into a more defined arena. Port City Java defines nontraditional sites as opportunities in unconventional retail settings for a coffee caf", such as a supermarket, hospital, office buildings and university settings. Reynolds elaborated that this would increase the company's velocity of openings, as the company is opening Traditional Cafés, as well as nontraditional site cafés.
